Select a building leader who
has some knowledge of
hurricane preparedness and choose floor
captains
to help instruct the
residents on how to prepare for a hurricane.
Locate a safe area for
residents to congregate,
preferably an interior hallway away
from windows or sliding glass
doors.
Locate all exit
stairways.
Determine a location outside
of the building for members of
family to meet if you are asked to evacuate.
Prepare Apartments For The Storm!
Remove all loose items from
terrace or patio,
such as hanging plants, lanterns, lawn furniture,
etc.
Bring the items indoors so
they do not become projectiles.
Secure the patio & sliding glass doors. Close all shutters.
Place a wedge in the top
part of patio doors to
Prevent them from being lifted up & into your apartment.
If you "are not" in an evacuated zone:
Unless you are ordered to
evacuate,
you may choose to remain in the building.
Stay in a room with few
or no windows.
Make provisions for sheltering other people
Who may be trapped by the approaching storm.
If you "are" in an evacuation zone:
Arrange to stay with a relative or friend outside
the evacuation area.
Go to the nearest American Red Cross refuge (shelter)
after the opening times have been announced on the news.
If you are in need of transportation:
If you are elderly, ill
or handicapped,
and you need transportation, assistance
